Here I drew some dragons from old paintings, drawings and sculptures of different time periods and artists (like DaVinci [link] , Carlo Crivelli [link] , William de Morgon,..), dragon graphics long before the “fantasy dragon” came into the picture….
….the original dragon has characteristics of reptiles, mammals and sometimes birds. That’s why I don’t see dragons as pure reptiles. Sure the reptilian characteristics predominate normally, but I wouldn’t classify them in these categories. Even in modern fantasies, and even if the dragon looks completely reptilian outwardly, they have almost always mammal like behavior in what kind soever. I think it’s wrong to try to press a dragon in the exiting animal categories. A dragon is a dragon!
Don’t you think?^^

…I usually wanted to do more dragon sketches…hm :/ maybe next time…

Very good study =)
I agree with your opinions on their nature. Interesting, they all have ears and some kind of fur. Perhaps they were similar to armadillos? Ideas to ponder ^^

There is that theory going around that dragons were inspired by eagles, snakes and big cats, so that may account for the mammalian appearance.
