This a colored sketch out of my sketchbook. The good thing about colored sketches is that you can revise all the faults of coloring and shading much better in the actual painting…

It’s a cold sunset…Excitedly screams can be heard it the air and the spit of the fire that destroys the village…the goats jams themselves in backmost corner of their corral bleat in fear of the fire and the…dragon!

On the rock is a male dragon of Draco’s kind. But not Draco (if you can see the differences or not)!!! He has some scars and one leg is only a stump. Maybe these wounds were inflicted by dragonslayers.
This dragon was wounded so much by humans, and perhaps he couldn’t stand the pain to see all the other dragons around him dying (possibly some of them were his friends…). Maybe it took only one more modicum to drive him into madness. The hate grows...he know everything is hopeless…the only thing that remains to be done is revenge (I guess he can’t differentiate between “good or bad” humans anymore, at this point)

Yes, he is responsible for the fire in the village. You can still see the black rings around his nostrils. And he is ready to blow fire on to coming soldiers, too (look at the dim glowing in his nose^^). Perhaps someone shoot an arrow with a ballista in his chest, and a thin line of blood runs down his body. I know as long as the arrow stuck in his body, usually the blood can’t issue much, but I guess if the dragon flew with the last of his strength on this rock, it’s possible that thru the movement flows out some blood. He is in great pain and knows he will die soon…but not without taking some of the hated humans with him…

Done with color pencils (still have no Prismas :P)

I have never read the original novel, is there including more description about story background like the past days of the dragons?

Not exactly. But if you look closely and read between the lines you can learn a lot! I think the book is much better than the movie. It’s easier to figure out all the connections and coherences that don’t come clear in the movie. If I didn`t read the book I hadn’t the background knowledge to understand all the innuendos there are in the movie. And you learn more about Draco’s and Bowen’s thoughts, motivations and feelings and the bond between them (or the faithful connection between Einon, Bowen, Kara and Draco). Oh and the book is much darker (for example the pain Draco has to stand – physical and emotional- is really hardcore, well in my opinion)

A good example for what went wrong with this movie is the story with the pigs. Do you remember the last village where Draco fell in the mud instead of a lake? The Villagers where surrounded by hundreds of healthy pigs (If a village has so many animals it can’t be poor). So why should the villagers try to eat the dragon? Are they on a pork diet? Does dragon meat tastes just like chicken? We don’t know. But the point is, that looks extremely stupid and it was never ever in ANY screenplay version! The director was the ONLY person on set who thought this was a funny idea.

The original idea was:
The villagers get starting poorer and poorer, so they(Bowen, Draco and Kara) come in this last village which is the “swamp village” where the peasants had nothing to offer (as payment for Bowen) they are starving. And as Draco fall in that muck (what he thinks was a lake), the villagers racing out there with every instrument of cutting they have and yelling “Meat! Meat! Meat!” `cause they starving. That dragon would feed the village for a week.
The point is that Bowen is bilking Einons nobles not the peasantry, but with each scam the lords dwindle away and the villagers gets more poverty stricken. The victims of this scam are so miserable and poor and starving that Bowen is really feeling guilty and he can’t quite justify this nonsense anymore. It is the beginning of the end for him….

In the movie the scams seems to me so meaningless ….and it don’t come clear what it means for Bowen and how this cause leads to the turning point on Avalon…

Do you know what I want to say?
Sorry for the long text, but I have no one, with whom I could talk about such thing things (and who is really interested in). ;)

Wow, this is really a long description, I have to use translation software to read. But your English is awesome!
Will the village of this story was the story turning point of Bowen . But the film is processed into a comedy segment. Maybe, Draco has already been aware of the problem, like a mentor directly took their business from fraud transaction to heroism. Avalon, in the movie, the dragon seem to be very familiar with. Through queen said, I know that in a long time ago, there was a harmonious coexistence age of human and dragon. Perhaps in the time of King Arthur. I really love this version of the magic set. Magic is mysterious, it does not like a technology exists, but as a partly hidden and partly visible. No Wizard, no technical term. This is the real magic.
In any case the most parts of the movie is primarily comedy elements, the time has passed so many years, I really want to have a new film version. A more serious epic movie. Now we have" Eragon" or " How to Train Your Dragon" ( the Eragon's movie is dreadful), so it seems impossible. Actually once I had dreamed of becoming a director, at least, a screenwriter, has the ability to shoot the film in its remake. The naive dream died in the growth road. I became a painter -.-|||
